Harry James Koss died of respiratory failure (severe restrictive lung disease).

Harry proudly served in the U.S. Army from February 1974 and retired in August 1995 as a Sergeant First Class, stationed at Ft. Devens, Mass.; Okinawa, Japan; Fort Meade, Maryland; West Berlin, Germany; Pensacola, Florida; Sinop, Turkey; and Ft. Meade, Maryland. After Army retirement, he worked as a contractor at the National Security Agency until 2018.

Harry was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He loved watching NFL games. He enjoyed planting tomatoes and seeing them grow. Harry loved his cats. First, there was Shadow. Shadow ran out an open door and never returned. Harry search for her was unsuccessful. Next cat was Abbey. Abbey, too, ran out the open door to never return. Then along came Mic-Mic. Mic-Mic knew he had it made living with Harry and stayed for many years. One day, Harry came home from work and discovered Mic-Mic passed away in his sleep. He was saddened by Mic-Mic's death. Harry was a great team member during his tour of duty in Sinop, Turkey. He was loved by the Army, Navy, and Turkish people at Field Station Sinop. He was an avid participant in all command functions. He treasured his crucifix necklace that was given to him. He wore it from the day it was given to him until the end. Harry was a special person who will never be forgotten.

He is survived by daughter, Leah M. Stevens of Merritt Island, Florida; son James J. Koss of Franklin, Tennessee. Four grandchildren: Isabelle and Jack Stevens, Madeleine and Jameson Koss; cousins Richard Johnston, Linda Heigel, Gordon Johnston, and Cindy Detsch; and close friends Gene Flynn, Tom Johnson, and Donna Hart.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Rachel Johnston Koss; daughter Charley Koss and cousins Mike Johnston and Ann Krise.

Graveside Services for Harry Koss will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, at 12 p.m. at Ridge Cemetery in Kersey, with Rev. Ross Miceli officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Fox Township Burial Detail.
