Milwaukee 1903 – 1923
Requiescat in Pace

Rev. Nicholas Becker, one of the most popular and beloved priests of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, was called to his eternal reward on February 9.
Father Becker was born September 30, 1856, at Neosho, Wis. Having graduated from the parish school, he entered St. Francis Seminary in 1870 where he went through a course of classical, philosophical, and theological studies and was ordained priest on August 30, 1879, by Bishop Heiss of La Crosse, in the bishop's chapel. After his ordination he was appointed pastor of St. Mary's, Pewaukee, where he labored with great zeal and success for twenty-four years. In 1903 he was transferred to St. Mary's Church, Milwaukee, where he labored for twenty ears and by his kindness and works of charity won the hearts of his people. His zeal in the confessional, his untiring work in visiting the sick and assisting the poor and lowly, will long be gratefully remembered. As in his first mission at Pewaukee, so also as pastor of St. Mary's he put up with a dwelling which offered little comfort, but he never complained. It was only at the insistence of his parishioners that he consented to a new and more modern parsonage which, however, he was not privileged to enter, as he died the very week it was ready for occupancy. We hope that God in his mercy has rewarded his faithful labors and prepared an infinitely better home for him in His heavenly kingdom.
