Husband of Anna Snow Jeffries Bland of Johnston, SC. Father of Katherine Bland Sawyer of Columbia, SC, and Lt. Col. Ret., USAF, Julian Pickens Bland, Jr, of Lexington, SC. Grandfather of Louis Shelton Sawyer, III of Atlanta, GA, Katherine Sawyer Bailey of Spartanburg, SC, Julian Pickens Bland, III, of Duncan, SC, and Marian Russell Bland, of Denver, CO. Great-grandfather of Elizabeth Jeffries Cooner, Sarah Katherine Cooner, and William Shelton Cooner of Spartanburg, SC, and Julian Pickens Bland, IV and Joshua Bland of Duncan, SC. Grandaddy lived his entire life in Edgefield County, South Carolina. He resided in Johnston, SC, where he was the owner of Bland Chevrolet, until his death in 1961 of heart failure . At the time of his death, he was survived by an older brother, Avory Bland, and a younger sister, Alberta "Bert" Bland Turner, both of Johnston, SC.

Grandaddy was a very tall, distinguished Southern gentleman who possessed a resonating voice and a quick wit. With his handsome features and noble character, he very much resembled Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird.

If ever I am to believe in after life communication, it happened to me in 2001. I had recently bought a new car and was surrounded by cars wrecking on a highway all around me. I didn't know which way to go to avoid the wreck when I distinctly heard Grandaddy's voice tell me to "go straight." I did and avoided all the other cars.

To date, both of Jule's children, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren are living in SC.

**A heartfelt thank you to Jane Eubanks for sponsoring my grandfather's memorial.
