Bull Inthe Heather saw his best racing days as a three-year old; he finished second in Grade II Fountain of Youth Stakes before winning the Grade I Florida Derby at odds of 29-1. Bull Inthe Heather started as the second-favorite in the 1993 Kentucky Derby, but disappointed, finishing 11th. He also contested the Belmont Stakes, finishing eighth. That year, he was also second in the Flamingo Stakes and Governor's Day Handicap. Bull Inthe Heather retired with a record of 33: 3-10- 3 and earnings of $508,338. He is regarded as Ferdinand's best son.
Bull Inthe Heather began his stallion career in 1997 Leckbee Thoroughbred Farm in Washington and remained there until 2001, when he moved to Running Horse Farm in New Mexico. He was pensioned from breeding in 2006 and retired to Old Friends Equine Retirement Facility, where he remained until his passing on April 4, 2014. The 24 year-old was euthanized after receiving treatment for many issues brought upon by age, which diminished his chances of a happy life.

In 2012, Bull Inthe Heather was immortalized in the form of a limited edition Breyer Model horse, which was sold to benefit Old Friends.
