Actress. She was best known to television viewers as 'Julie Barnes' on the ABC crime drama "The Mod Squad" from 1968 to 1973. She was also known for her role as 'Norma Jennings' on the early 1990s ABC mystery drama "Twin Peaks." Born Margaret Ann Lipton, she started out in modeling, but later moved into acting. Her first acting role came in 1965 on the television series "The John Forsythe Show." Besides "The Mod Squad" and "Twin Peaks," she appeared in numerous television series during her career such as "Bewitched," "The Virginian," "The F.B.I.," "Wings," and "Alias." She earned several Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy nominations for her performances on "The Mod Squad" and won two Golden Globes for Best TV Actress - Drama (1971 and 1972). She made her "big screen" debut in the 1967 film "Mosby's Marauders." She later appeared in such films as "Blue" (1968), "War Party" (1988), "True Identity" (1991), "The Postman" (1997), and "A Dog's Purpose" (2017). She also recorded songs during the late 1960s and early 1970s. She left acting basically after "The Mod Squad" ended in 1973, but came back to the profession in 1988. From 1974 to 1990, she was married to producer and musician Quincy Jones and their daughter Rashida followed into the acting profession. She passed away after a battle with cancer.
