"Glay W. Abernathy, 72, of Covington, died at 11:45 p.m. Monday (December 12, 1994) at his home. He had been in ill health for some time. He was born February 21, 1922, in Wabash Township, Fountain County, Indiana, the son of Homer and Elizabeth Vitalie Abernathy. He married Betty Wallce January 21, 1943, and she preceded him in death March 1, 1982.

Glay was a life resident of Fountain County and moved to Covington in 1946. he was an Amry veteran of World War II and was employed at the Covington Post Office from 1946 to 1977 when he retired as superintendent of postal operations. He was a member of Fountain County Old Guard Post 2395 VFW, Fulton Banta Post 291 American Legion.

Surviving are: a son, Tony (Afas) Abernathy of Indianapolis; five grandchildren, Tamara Nelson (should be Mason) of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Troy Abernathy of Covington and Hana, Lisa and Mark Abernathy of Indianapolis; three sisters, Leafa Mitchell of Covington, Leah (Floyd) Maddox of Indianapolis, Marlis Morgan of Huston, Texas; two brothers, Lloyd (Martha) and Dale Leon (Judy), both of Covington. He also was preceded by his parents, a brother, Orville, and a sister, Reva Gregory.

Funeral services: 11 a.m. EST Thursday at Shelby Funeral Home in Covington, with Warren Allen officiating; Burial: Mt. Hope Cemetery; Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home." – Commercial News, Danville, Illinois, December 13, 1994
