Author. He is remembered for penning the novel "War of the Roses" (1981), which was made into a 1989 motion picture adaptation starring Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. Born to a Jewish family, he earned his degree in English Literature from New York University and landed a position as a journalist with the New York Daily News following graduation. In addition, he took a Creative Writing class at the New School. Among his classmates there include future authors Mario Puzo ("The Godfather") and William Styron ("Sophie's Choice"). He served with the United States Army during the Korean War as a correspondent with the Armed Forces Press Service and following his return home, he founded a public relations and advertising company. In 1968, his firm advised Richard Nixon's presidential campaign. He focused on writing and in 1974, he penned his first novel, the suspenseful "Undertow." Other works include "The Sunset Gang" (1977), "Random Hearts" (1984, which was made into a 1999 motion picture adaptation starring Harrison Ford), "Children of the Roses" (2004) and "Target Churchill" (2012). He died from cancer of the liver.
