Mellie was the daughter of Raleigh Buren Guy and Zeffie Atkins who were parents of three daughters, Geneva, Zelma, and Mellie. Her mother passed when Mellie was just a baby, and her father married Zeffie's sister, Amanda, who raised the girls as if they were her own. She and Buren did not have children together.

Mellie married a classmate, Tom Price, her husband of 65 years, and they went to Illinois to find work after graduation from Polk County High School in 1954. They were parents of Melody, Jill and Joe, (and a baby boy who died in infancy) They had several grandchildren, and to her great delight, just recently she and Tom became great grandparents!

She was an educator, earning her degree in Illinois several years after her high school graduation, and taught for many years in Benton Elementary school after they return home to Polk County.

Mellie was active in the Retired Teachers Association, The Red Hat Club, and the Polk County Historical & Genealogical Society. She loved to collect antiques of many kinds and enjoyed visiting yard sales looking for a special 'find' to add to her collection.

She was a special twelve year classamate, and cherished lifetime friend to his contributor and will be sorely missed.
