3rd Alaska Governor. A member of the Republican Party, he served as the Governor of Alaska from 1969 to 1970. Following service with the United States Army during World War II, he studied at the University of Washington. He moved to Alaska, where he operated a farm in Talkeetna and initiated his political career, when he was elected as Alaska's Secretary of State (1966 to 1969). Miller succeeded Wally Hickel as Governor after President Nixon appointed him (Hickel) to serve as the Secretary of the Interior. During Miller's tenure, the $900 million dollar Prudhoe Bay lease sale took place which led to the construction of the Trans-Alaska Oil Pipeline. He lost his bid to secure his own term as Alaska's Governor in 1970 and was succeeded by William Egan. Miller had a failed attempt at the Republican Nomination for Governor in 1974. He would go on to author the books "Prudhoe Bay Governor: Alaska's Keith Miller" and "The Battle of Amarillo: A Teenage Soldier's Letters Home During World War II." He died from pancreatic cancer.
