COLBY, Joseph Walter Lamont, Sr., 70, of Chesterfield, Va. went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at St. Francis Medical Center. His parents, Lois and Robert Colby; and his sister, Brenda Addison preceded him in death. He is survived by four children, Joseph Colby Jr. (Roxanne) of Chesapeake, Roger Colby (Margie) and Tim Colby (Kim), both of Chesterfield and Kristie Powers (Brian) of Dinwiddie; 6 grandchildren, Jessica, Blake, Meagan, Tori, Kaylee, and Logan; brothers, Kenneth Wayne Colby (Kathy) of Danville and Keith Colby (Donna-Maria) of Chesapeake; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a member of Monumental Baptist Church of Petersburg, Va. and retired from Overnite Transportation after 35 years of service. In the mid 60’s he played drums at various venues in Richmond with Teenie Chenault and the Country Rockers and loved playing the spoons. He served his community as a member of the CB radio watch and as a member of the Bensley Bermuda Rescue Squad. One of his favorite hobbies was woodworking and in later years performing the role of Chaplain in Civil War reenactments. His family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Bliley’s-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd. where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, March 8, 2019 with Pastor Duane Guridy of Monumental Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
