BRIDGER -- Thomas J. Wetsch, 88, of Bridger, died May 21, 1994, at Carbon County Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

Tom was born on Dec. 29, 1905, in Odessa, Russia, the son of Joseph and Rosa (Anton) Wetsch. The family came to the United States in 1908, first to North Dakota, and subsequently at various locations in Montana before settling in the Bridger area. On Feb. 6, 1933, Thomas was united in marriage to Catherine Jares in Bridger.

During his working years, he farmed in the Bridger and Fromberg area. Tom also worked for the city of Laurel, Carbon County and various private businesses in Carbon County. In his retirement years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing pinochle. Tom treasured the time he spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Wetsch of Bridger; his son, Donald and daughter-in-law, Carrie of Elkins, W. Va.; his daughter, Anna and son-in-law, Bob Jensen of Helena. Tom's legacy includes seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two brothers, Gabe Wetsch of Billings and Jake Wetsch of Gooding, Idaho; and three sisters, Barbara VanderPas of Florence, Mont., Mary Larsen of Powell, Wyo., and Louise Hjelseth of Coeur d'alene, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Virginia Rose Wetsch, five sisters and four brothers.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice.

At his request, no services are planned. Cremation has taken place. Dahl Funeral Chapel of Red Lodge is in charge of arrangements.
