Evelyn V. Hughes, 91, of Corvallis died Monday at Golden Days Foster Home.

She was born and raised in Rice Lake, Wis., to Dolly and Darney Scheurer.

She married Jack Hughes on Sept. 26, 1934, in Minnesota, and they came to Corvallis 62 years ago.

She had eight children whose names all started with the letter K. She had been married for 66 years when Jack passed away.

Evelyn worked at Mutual Produce for 25 years as an egg candler. She also worked at the local cannery, did elder care services for others and many other miscellaneous jobs through the years.

Evelyn was a very loving mother and grandma. The family was her life.

Her hobbies included dancing, playing cards and spending time with her family.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, grandson Greg Risen and sons-in-law Darrell Risen and Preston Smith. Evelyn was the last of 10 siblings to pass away.

She is survived by sons Kip Hughes and wife Karen of Corvallis, Ken Hughes and wife Kate of Florida, Kurtis Hughes and Keith Hughes; daughters Kay Risen of Corvallis, Karen Parrish and husband Gene of Albany, Kitty Hubbard and husband Neal of Albany, and Kathy Graham and husband Bob of Albany; special nephew Bob Scheurer of Riverside, Calif.; 26 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

"She was the glue that held our family together. She was much loved by her children and grandchildren and she loved all of them in return. We'll miss you Mom."
