Janice Harrop Murdock passed away Dec. 23, 2015 holding the hand of her sweetheart in Richfield, Sevier County. Janice was born Nov. 27, 1938 to Thomas Marvel Harrop and Hilda Watts Iverson Harrop in Salt Lake City. Janice grew up in Murray, where she was doted over by her Grandfather Thomas Harrop who owned and operated a popular candy store. She attended and graduated from Murray High School.

Janice attended LDS Business College and became an accomplished stenographer and typist. Janice met her first husband when she was at a high school band concert at Kingsbury Hall. She later married George Carter McIlrath in the Salt Lake LDS Temple April 26, 1957. She is the mother of three sons; David Kevin McIlrath, Kelly Dean McIlrath and George Paul McIlrath.

Janice was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who watched over her family. She was an excellent homemaker and was devoted to her family and religion. She served in the Primary, Young Women’s and Relief Society organizations. One of her loves was teaching her Young Women how to knit. She was an avid home production advocate and spent every summer growing a beautiful garden and canning the produce that came from it. She enjoyed camping and fishing with her family and often went deer hunting with them. Janice was the utilities department supervisor for Bountiful City for many years and retired from there.

After the passing of her first husband, she met David Lon Murdock and began a courtship. She married David on July 11, 2009 and moved to Monroe. Together, David and Janice took great care of each. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family in her Monroe home and had many fun adventures with David. They were often found enjoying the company of their many friends throughout Southern Utah and Las Vegas. She was found to never say “no” and enjoyed Bounty Hunting, Gold Mining and going fast in their Corvette. Janice showed no fear of weapons and shot them all. Trips to Bolivia, Peru, and New York City were planned for their future.

She is survived by her husband David Lon Murdock of Monroe; brothers Marvin (Margie), Cathedral City, CA: Keith (JoAnn), Murray; sons David K. (Carrie), South Ogden; Kelly D. (Lisa), Payson; G. Paul (Debbie), Saratoga Springs; step-sons David Murdock Jr, (Dawn) Las Vegas, NV; Steve Murdock, Malta, IL and Daniel Murdock, Hailey, Idaho; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Janice was preceded in death by her parents Marv Harrop and Hilda Harrop, sister-in-law JoAnn Harrop and her first husband, George C. McIlrath.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 31, 2015 at noon in the Bountiful 4th LDS Ward Chapel, 102 E. 1500 South, Bountiful, where friends may call for viewing Thursday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Centerville City Cemetery, 500 E. 400 South in Centerville, under the care of the Springer Turner Funeral Home of Richfield and Salina. A memorial service is planned for early January to be held in Monroe.
