Lavona Lafarlette of Broken Arrow, died May 21, 2004. She was born in Broken Arrow on November 24, 1911 to Earl P. and Mary (Crane) Hewitt. She graduated from Broken Arrow High School and spent two summers at Southeastern State College. On January 27, 1932 she married Audie E. Lafarlette. They owned and operated a 260 acre farm east of Broken Arrow until Audie's death in 1978. From 1945 to 1947 she taught at Thomas School on an Emergency Teacher's Certificate. She worked at Braden Winch in Broken Arrow and then was employed by the Board of Wagoner County Commissioners for 14 years. Many weekends were spent working at the Broken Arrow Nursing Home. Time was still found to belong to the Wagoner County Women's Club, Broken Arrow Chapter of Eastern Star, and Past Worthy Matron of Coweta Eastern Star. She enjoyed sewing, reading, and late in life she started jogging and participated in local runs. She loved God and her family. May she be forever peaceful walking on the wooded creek banks in Heaven. Preceded in death by: her parents, her husband, Audie, her brother, Virgil Leon Hewitt; twin sister, Lavina Meek; infant son, A.E.; and grandson, Ronnie Robison. Service will be held at 11 a.m. , Monday, May 24 at Thomas Community Church, east of Broken Arrow. Burial at Park Grove Cemetery in Broken Arrow. Amis-Kennard Funeral Service, 251-5331.
