Philanthropist/businesswoman. The only surviving child of businessman Anton Hulman and his wife Mary Fendrich, she attended St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana and interred Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Hulman & Co from her parents in 1988. Mari married racer Elmer George in 1957. From 1997 to 2015, she started Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400 races with the famous starting command, "(Ladies and) Gentlemen, start your engines!". Mari retired in 2016 but kept her former title. She passed away on November 3, 2018 at the age of 83.
