He was born in Limestone, May 21, 1905 the son of Joseph Herbert and Margaret Greenier Gallagher.
He was educated in Limestone schools, graduating from Limestone High School.
He was married June 27, 1927 to Hazel M. Soucie and they had 57 years of a loving marriage together.
Mr. Gallagher had been employed 38 years at Great Northern Paper Co. and the Millinocket Water Co. where he was a water commissioner. He then worked eight years of Powercube Corporation in Waltham, Mass. He also worked at Gracelawn Memorial Park for 20 years, retiring at the age of 90.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting, conoeing and storytelling of which he shared vivid memories of his long life. He was a "Jack of all traded" and had taught fly tying for Adult Education at Edward Little High School. He was a member of the Advent Christian Church and loved music and played many instruments, particularly stringed instruments.
He maintained his active life with assistance from his local family, a granddaughter Julie Goodwin and son-in-law Ed Chapman.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Mary-Ellen) Stanley of E. Millinocket; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife Hazel in 1984; a daughter, Nadine J. Chapman in 1972; a son, Arthur J. Jr. in 1992; and a grandson, Kevin Stanley.
