Sgt. Wright of Grand Blanc, Michigan was deployed to Iraq with the Army National Guard's 46th Military Police Company out of Kingsford and Cheboygan. He previously went to Iraq with the 144th Military Police Company out of Owosso. Wright was featured several times in The Flint Journal. On August 14, 1993 he married Katherine and was called up in March 2002 just a month before the birth of his only child, daughter Alexis. He was able to make it back to be at the side of his wife, Katherine, during the birth. He returned from that tour in February 2003 anxious to get home to his wife and new baby girl. Most recently, Wright was home on leave from this tour for two weeks in February and took 4-year-old to the Daddy-Daughter Dance hosted by Grand Blanc Parks and Recreation. He served his country in the United States Army for 7 years. Upon his return from tour he had planned to attend paramedic school. Thomas was awarded several medals including, Bronze Star Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (1 Bnz Oak Leaf), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal (Katrina), Armed Forces Reserve Medal W/"M" & "2" Device, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Michigan Distinguised Service Medal, Michigan Service Medal (w/1 Gold Star), Michigan State War on Terrorism Ribbon w/"M" Device, Michigan Outside United States Service Ribbon and Louisiana Emergency Service Medal (Hurricane Katrina/Rita Relief). During his military service he supported Operation Enduring Freedom, Katrina Hurricane Relief and Operation Iraqi Freedom. He suddenly fell ill in Iraq and died while in flight to Germany for treatment. He was buried with a military graveside service. He was 38.
