He was born in Harrisonburg on September 28, 1948, and was a son of the late Elmer Joseph and Lena May (Foster) Zimmerman.
Robert was a member of the Briery Branch Church of the Brethren. He was a poultry farmer. He served his country during the Vietnam War in the US Army and was a member of the Myers-Hodge VFW Post # 8644. He was a member of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
On June 19, 1971 he was united in marriage to Linda Ann (Simmers) Zimmerman, of Briery Branch.
Surviving in addition to his wife is his daughter, Lee Ann Zimmerman, of Bridgewate;
two sons Roy Joseph Zimmerman and girlfriend Theresa Kinnison, of Dayton and Jason David Zimmerman and wife Brandi, of Dayton; his granddaughter, Avery Zimmerman; a sister, Carol Miller, of Dayton; and a brother, Fred Zimmerman and wife Kathy, of Harrisonburg; and a special friend Mike Hilbert a
He was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Zimmerman.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Briery Branch Church of the Brethren Pastor Randy Cosner and Pastor Kathy Puffenbarger officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military grave rites by the Dayton American Legion Post #27.
The casket will be closed.
