Company A, Coleman's Ark. Regt. Blackburn was one of six Confederate POW's executed on Oct. 29, 1864 by the Union Army to avenge the death of US Major James Wilson. Wilson and his 6 man patrol were turned over to Major Timothy Reeves' about Oct.3 near the battle of Pilot Knob. Wilson and his men were found a few days later. The Confederate soldiers executed in retaliation for the death of Major Wilson were Pvt's. H.H. Blackburn, John Nicholds, George Bunch, Asa Ladd, G.W. Mineckin and James Gates.
After the execution, the men were buried on Nov. 1st. Pvt. Blackburn is buried at: SECTION 20 SITE 4605 at
JEFFERSON BARRACKS NATIONAL CEMETERY
