Harry Arvanitis, 91, of Warren, entered into eternal rest Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, at Gillette Nursing Home.

He was born Dec. 24, 1926, in Warren, the son of the late Nick and Anna Haralairpides Arvanitis.

Harry was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served from Dec. 21, 1944 until June 25, 1947 on the destroyer USS Basilone.

On Aug. 26, 1950, Harry married the former Alma Lawson and they shared 62 years of marriage and many wonderful memories until her passing Jan. 24, 2013.

Harry and Alma had three children, Gregory, 62, Cheri, 58, and Doug, 55.

He graduated from Youngstown State University with a bachelor’s degree in business. Harry was the director of purchasing for Trumbull Memorial Hospital for 46 years. After retiring, he worked in a similar capacity for the Town and Country Veterinary Hospital.

Harry enjoyed sports and was involved with the Howland athletic boosters. He enjoyed making wine, playing cards and watching classic movies. Harry was a lifetime member of the Elks Club and he donated blood and was a member of the Gallon Club with the Red Cross.

He was an avid sports fan and followed the Harding Panthers, Howland Tigers, Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State Buckeyes.

Loving memories of Harry will be carried on by his daughter, Cheri (Dr. Charles) Moxley of Cortland; sons, Dr. Gregory (Jeanie) Arvanitis of Woodstock, Ga. and Dr. Douglas (Catherine) Arvanitis of Tampa, Fla.; grandchildren, Tyler and Jordan (Kevin Smith) Moxley and Nikko, Carter, Ryan and Evan Arvanitis; and brother, Frank Arvanitis of California.

In addition to his wife, Harry was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, James Arvanitis.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where Pastor Joe Cameneti will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Crown Hill Burial Park, Vienna.

Harry’s life’s priority was his family, and could always be found at one of his children’s or grandchildren’s athletic events.
