Hugh Zelmer "Zell" Roberts, 83, of Jabez, Kentucky, died Wednesday, July 15, 1981, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, after an illness of several weeks. The son of Columbus "Lum" and Minerva Satterfield Roberts, he was born July 27, 1899, at Jabez. He served in the U. S. Army at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois, from 1919 until 1920. He later worked in various auto assembly plants in Chicago and Detroit, Michigan, farmed in the Champaign-Urbana, Illinois area. He was employed at Montgomery Ward and Sears Roebuck in Urbana, Illinois. He worked for International Harvester Company in Richmond, Indiana, from 1944 until 1956. His latest employment was with the Perfect Circle Corporation from which he retired in 1964. He has lived in Jabez, Kentucky, since 1965. Survivors are his wife the former Mamie Turner whom he married April19, 1934, his two sons; Darrell Roberts of Odessa, Texas, and Gary Roberts of Centerville, Indiana, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. His sister, Amelia Johnson of Faubush, Kentucky, also survives. Services were Saturday July 18, 1981, at 2:00 p.m. at the Morris Hislope Funeral Home, Science Hill, Kentucky, with Bro. Matthew Turner oficiating. Burial was in Roberts Cemetery, Jabez, Kentucky.
