Faye Mildred Achenbach, Mountain Home, Idaho, died Saturday at her home. She was 88.

She was born Sept. 7, 1930, in Pine Grove, to Esther and Frederic Stupp, where she attended Pine Grove Elementary School and High School. She later obtained her Pennsylvania Insurance License in 1973, and an LPN degree in nursing from the Reading Hospital in Reading, in 1976. She was employed by Berks Heim and Wernersville State Hospital for a number of years.

Faye and Richard resided primarily in West Lawn, and New Port Richey, Fla., where they often welcomed family and friends.

Faye's early youth was spent with her large family on a farm where she developed her strong sense of independence and resourcefulness. After raising four sons as a homemaker, Faye embarked on a nursing career - at the time, a remarkable choice for a woman in her 40s that affirmed her earlier pragmatism. In later years, she traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe, housed a wide collection of books, offered well-versed discussion in current events, and remained particularly fond of cats throughout her lifetime.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, of 51 years, in 1999.

She is survived by sons, Craig R., Jeffrey D., Mark W. and Richard F.; grandchildren, Sara E., Joseph C., Lindsey T. Hampson and Lee C.; a great-grandchild, Aria F.; sister, Annetta Wyatt.

A private family memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions are greatly appreciated and can be made in memoriam to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, or a local animal rescue organization of choice. Cremation was under the care of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mountain Home, Idaho.
