Candler - Glenn Riley Riddle, 82, of the Hominy Valley community, died Thursday, May 25, 2006, at his home.
A native of the Foster Creek community of Madison County, Mr. Riddle had lived in Buncombe County for the most of his adult life. He was a brick mason by trade and was instrumental in teaching his sons as well as many other family members and friends the skills of this trade.
He was a faithful member of Maple Ridge Baptist Church and had been a deacon for 46 years, serving as chairman for several terms. His sons, Reagan, Larry and Mike are members of the Primitive Quartet and they would like to thank their loving father for being their greatest source of encouragement. "Through his teachings, Dad passed on his musical heritage to us."
All of his family would like to thank him for teaching them the importance of dedication to Christ, family and hard, honest work. Through his hard work he provided a homestead so that each of his children could, in turn, have a piece of land to build a home and raise their children. His family considers it to be such a blessing to have been able to be close to their parents and each other. They would also like to thank their father for being such a loving and supportive husband to their mother.
Mr. Riddle was the son of the late James Cornelius Riddle and Lula Roberts Riddle. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Riddle and brothers, Wade, Emory, Hilliard, Cecil and Alonzo Riddle.
Mr. Riddle leaves behind his loving family, including his wife of 61 years, Lois Hoyle Riddle; daughter, Geneva Riddle Welty and her husband, Bob; sons, Reagan Glenn Riddle and his wife, Joyce, Larry Lester Riddle and his wife, Mitzi, Michael Dean Riddle and his wife, Diane and Darrin Keith Riddle and his wife, Darlene; sister, Mae Riddle Edwards; nine grandchildren, Tracey Dykes, Tammy Fox, Greg Bryant, Greta Burns, Gretchen Anderson, Kelly Crawford, Kendall Riddle, Colton Riddle and Brady Riddle; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral service for Mr. Riddle will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Maple Ridge Baptist Church, located in Candler, conducted by the Revs. Steve Fox, Charles Worley and Jimmy Dykes.
Burial will follow in Pisgah View Memorial Park Cemetery.
