In 1974 Malcolm "Mac" Graham 43, and Eleanor LaVerne "Muff" Graham, 40, sailed to Palmyra Atoll — 1,200 miles south of Honolulu. Also on Palmyra were Buck Walker and Stephanie Stearns also sailed there together from Hawaii on a vessel that was no longer sea worthy.
Walker was an ex-convict who used alias names He planned to grow Marijuna on Palmyra but that failed.
When Mac and Muff suddenly failed to communicate to their friend via radio he became worried.
Then Buck Walker and Stephanie Stearns who were going under different names were apprehended and charged with the theft of Mac's sail ship Sea Wind.
The years passed with no information on the whereabouts of the Grahams. Until one morning in 1981, other visitors to Palmyra, Robert and Sharon Jordan, from South Africa found Muff Graham's skull and other remains on the Palmyra beach near a large metal container. The remains showed signs of dismemberment and burning.
Buck was sentenced to life for her murder. Stephanie was never sentenced although many believe she assisted in the murders. Mac's remains have never been recovered
Walker was released on parole in September 2007 at the age of 69, after serving 22 years of a life sentence, and died of a stroke on April 26, 2010 at the age of 72.
