The son of a former speedway driver,Williamson began to race at 16 years old (karting). After years of success, he moved to circuits: 14 races won in 1968 (Mini championship). Then he moved to single seaters (Ford Anglia 1000cc) and won the championship easily. Economically helped by Tom Wheatcroft, he reached Formula 3, demonstrating that he was the best driver, winning three championships in only two years. In Formula 2, he won the Italian lottery Grand Prix. He raced in only two Formula 1 races: British GP (1973) in which he was involved in a catastrophic crash with many other cars, and Zandvoort. His car (March-Ford 731G Stp) crashed in the seventh lap. It rested upside down and on fire with Williamson trapped in the cockpit. Nobody tried to save him apart for another driver (David Purley) who stopped racing. Roger died in the fire in front of millions of TV viewers. (Bio by D. Innocenti).
