Annie Doris Locust Adams, age 82, a resident of Vanceboro, NC and a former resident of Grifton, NC died Monday, June 25, 2018. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday, June 28, 2018 at Hillside Funeral Service, Washington, NC. A private interment will be held at Evergreen Memorial Estates in Grifton, NC. A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm, Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Winterville, NC. She was born December 2, 1935 to the late Nancy Davis Locust Morgan and John Murphy Locust in Pitt County, NC. Annie Doris as most people called her graduated from South Ayden High School in 1955 and moved to Baltimore, Maryland where she attended Cortez Peters Business College. There she met her soul mate, Atlas Moore Adams while working at John Hopkins University Hospital and they married in 1959. He preceded her in death in 1973. She later moved back to her home place in North Carolina and attended Pitt Community College. She obtained her nursing assistant certification and did what she loved most, being a caregiver. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and adored her grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her sister Pauline Locust and her brother Edward Locust. She was also predeceased by two daughter in-laws; Linda Locust and Janet Adams. Survivors include one daughter; Maria S. Adams of Ayden, NC, three sons; Atlas Adams, Jr and wife Patricia of Walstonburg, NC, Fletcher Adams of Vanceboro, NC, and Thomas Locust and wife Annette of Greenville, NC, one grandson; Spencer Adams and wife Shay of Fayetteville, NC, five granddaughters; Tami Locust of Greenville, NC, Alexis Adams Wallace and husband Michael of El Paso, TX, Destiny Adams of Walstonburg, NC, Krystal Jordan of St. Roberts, MO and LaShonda Newborn of Kinston, NC, five great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and one step grandson, David King of Greenville, NC, two godchildren; Stan Adams and Renee Adams-Whitaker of Vanceboro, NC. The family would like to thank Eunice Adams and Julia Thornton of Vanceboro, NC for watching over Annie Doris during her stay in Vanceboro. Special thanks to Gwen Moore and the staff at East Carolina Wellness & Rehab and AseraCare Hospice for caring for our mother and grandmother during her stay there as well. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Hillside Funeral Service, Washington, NC.
