He was born on April 22, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Philip Joseph Abate and Minnie Serritella.
He was a World War II, Army Veteran, having served in Okinawa; beloved husband of the late Catherine Agnes "Sis", nee Marzano; loving father of Christine, Philip, and the late baby Philip; beloved son of the late Philip and Minnie, nee Serritella, Abate; dear brother of Carmella and Danny Abate; fond uncle and great-uncle of many nieces and nephews; dear godfather to George Serritella and Geraldine "Gerry" Schillaci; fond nephew to Geraldine "Dolly" Schillaci.
Funeral Wednesday, 9:15 a.m. from Michael Coletta Sons Funeral Home, 544 W. 31st St. to Santa Lucia Church, Mass 10 a.m. Interment Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
