He was born on April 22, 1926, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Philip Joseph Abate and Minnie Serritella.
He was a World War II, Army Veteran, having served in Okinawa; beloved husband of the late Catherine Agnes "Sis", nee Marzano; loving father of Christine, Philip, and the late baby Philip; beloved son of the late Philip and Minnie, nee Serritella, Abate; dear brother of Carmella and Danny Abate; fond uncle and great-uncle of many nieces and nephews; dear godfather to George Serritella and Geraldine "Gerry" Schillaci; fond nephew to Geraldine "Dolly" Schillaci.
Funeral Wednesday, 9:15 a.m. from Michael Coletta Sons Funeral Home, 544 W. 31st St. to Santa Lucia Church, Mass 10 a.m. Interment Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Former member of Gabric Boosters, Orients Social Club, and Knights of Columbus, St. Albert the Great # 3935. Member of Foreign Wars Post, 6870. Joe and his personality will surely be missed by all.
