Slack Ithel "Buck", age 65, passed away at home on Monday, February 6, 2017. Buck was born on February 4, 1952 in Portsmouth, OH and grew up in Columbus. He and his loving wife settled in Pataskala in 1983, where they raised five children. Living in the community for 33 years until retiring to Blacklick last fall. Buck was an avid supporter of Southwest Licking Schools and sports. He could often be found working at numerous football and basketball games and band events. He considered the football stadium to be his second home. He was instrumental in the development of over 100 boys from his many years serving as scout master of Pataskala Boy Scout Troop 21. He loved life, was passionate about music and could always bring joy to all whenever he pulled out his guitar and started to sing. He loved his family with every fiber of his soul and found great joy in his grandchildren. He worked hard and he loved hard. His infectious smile and energy left an impression on everyone who met him.

Buck is survived by his dear wife of 45 years, Sara Ellen (Ryan) Slack; their five children, 10 grandchildren, 1 sister, a niece and several great nieces, great nephew, and cherished friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents James and Beatrice (Austin) Slack, sister Deborah Jackson and beloved nephew Rodney Shutts.

Funeral service will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2017 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2135 Baldwin Road, Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Friends may visit Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Church. Burial will follow the service at Pataskala Cemetery, Pataskala, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Buck's memory to Watkins Memorial High School Athletic Boosters or Music Boosters, 8868 Watkins Road SW, Pataskala, OH 43062. Arrangements are being handled through KAUBER-FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, Pataskala.
