Mary Dovie Brownfield, age 88, died Sunday, July 29 at Community Hospice in Fort Worth, Texas after a short illness.

Dovie was born November 27, 1929 in Merkel, Texas to Doyle and Ena (Toombs) Pogue of Snyder, Texas. She grew up on a farm in the Plainview Community east of Snyder and graduated from Snyder High School in 1946. She began Abilene Christian University at the age of 16, where she received a bachelor's degree in mathematics and physics in 1950. Dovie taught school in Snyder until she married Franklin Brownfield on January 31, 1952. They lived a year in Lubbock and 15 years in Blackwell before moving to Colorado City in 1967. Mrs. Brownfield was a teacher at Colorado High School from 1967 until 1981.

Dovie had been a member of the 22nd and Austin Street church of Christ. She was active in the Lions Club, serving as the first female president of the local organization and was a long-time member of the Mitchell County Library Club, Garden Club and DAR.

Dovie moved to an apartment at The Westmore in West Worth Village, Texas in 2014 to be near her children in the area. She loved this senior living community and lived a very full life there until her hospitalization in early July.

She is survived by two daughters Marsha and husband Dr. Eddie Nixon of Menard, Janet and husband Robert Courtney of Farmers Branch; one son David and his wife Jacqui Brownfield of Fort Worth; two grandchildren: James Nixon of Boston, MA and Elizabeth (Nixon) and husband Eliud Rodriguez and their sons Mattis and Micah, Dovie's precious great-grandsons all of San Antonio.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Frank and her sister Patsy Williams.
