PROSPECT — Matthew Stephen Kenney, age 14, of 20 Meadow Lane, died Saturday, April 28, 2007, at Saint Mary's Hospital.
Matthew was born on April 19, 1993, in Waterbury, a son of Stephen Kenney and Joanne (Giannelli) Kenney. He was an honor student in the seventh grade at Long River Middle School in Prospect and was active in youth sports, having played with the TriValley Pop Warner Football League, the Prospect Little League and the Prospect Basketball Travel Team. He also enjoyed biking, snowboarding and shopping.
Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Michael Kenney of Prospect; his maternal grandparents, Pat and Susanne Giannelli of Waterbury; his paternal grandparents, Francis and Bonnie Kenney of N. Hutchison Island, Fla., formerly of Waterbury; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 2, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Church, 4 Union City Road. Friends and family are asked to please meet directly at the church at 9:40 a.m. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery. Friends may call at the Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69, on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that contributions in Matthew's memory be made to Prospect Little League Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 7085, Prospect 06712; or Tri-Valley Pop Warner Football League Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 7290, Prospect 06712.
