Robert D. Sharp, age 96, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away at 7:25 a.m., Friday, July 6, 2018, at Oakley Place in Greenville.
Robert was born August 29, 1921, in Darke County to the late Leroy A. and Marie T. (Brooks) Sharp.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Georgana M. (Best) Sharp on February 27, 2007, whom he married March 27, 1948; brothers, A.D., Victor and Verne Sharp; and sister, Maxine Bruss.
Robert is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Vicki and Dan Phillippi of Troy and Debbie Mitchell of Greenville; grandchildren, Matt and Carrie Phillippi of Mason, Katie and Jeff Cook of Akron, and Gabrielle Sharp of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Max, Andrew, Dylan, and Benjamin; brother and sister-in-law, Verla and Harriette Sharp of Greenville; and nieces, nephews, close friends and neighbors too numerous to mention.
Robert served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He retired in 1989 from Cadillac Gage in Greenville with 22 years of service. He was a member of the Greenville American Legion and Eagles Lodge. Robert enjoyed growing tomatoes, making homemade apple cider and watching the Cincinnati Reds.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 11, at Zechar Bailey Funeral Home in Greenville with Pastor Todd Reish officiating.
Burial will follow in Greenville Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Greenville Veteran's Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences for the family may be expressed through www.zecharbailey.com
