Dan Morris Truelove was born Nov. 2, 1932, in Vernon. He was the sixth of seven children born to John Emmit and Beulah Bell Truelove.

Dan graduated from Vernon High School in May 1950. He later moved to Midland where he met the true love of his life, Sharon Sue Burt. They were joined into a bond on May 5, 1956, that lasted over 50 years.

Dan graduated from West Texas State University in 1960 and embarked on a path of educating and enriching the lives of the youth of West Texas. Among his most cherished memories are the accomplishments of his students and athletes during a stellar 35-year career coaching football, volleyball, basketball, track, golf, calculator applications, and number sense in the communities of Farwell, O'Donnell, Hamlin, Spearman, and Westbrook. Included among those accomplishments were numerous district, regional, and state championships earned by countless individuals and teams that he coached. In 1970, he received his Master's Degree in education from Abilene Christian University.

Dan remained a successful, yet unheralded coach during his tenure in education, which was the way he always wanted it to be. He was only interested in producing productive, honest, hard-working citizens. Molding children was always his passion.

In 1977, Dan and Sharon moved to Colorado City, where Dan was instrumental in rechartering the Primitive Baptist Church in Colorado City in 1980. The church was the centerpiece of his life and he and Sharon enjoyed attending many meetings over the years hosted by churches in several states.

His hobbies included flying, discussing the bible doctrine with preachers, camping and fishing in Colorado, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Dan was freed from the pain of his earthly body to be with his Lord on April 22, 2007. Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Sharon Truelove of Colorado City; son, Daniel Truelove and wife Nita of Sweetwater; son, Tony and wife Bobbie of Abernathy; grandchildren, Matthew Logan, Jacob, Jordan, Tori, Josh, Cason, and Tyler; and sisters, Betty Keisling and husband Floyd and Linda Stanford and husband Clyde.

The funeral services for Dan Truelove were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at Kiker-Seale Funeral Home in Colorado City. The interment followed at Westbrook Cemetery in Westbrook.
