Mr. Flick was born on September 26, 1927 in Rockingham County and was a son of the late Joseph Vernon and Mary Kyle (Frazier) Flick Sr. He enlisted with the Merchant Marines at age 17, and then served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. James retired from Advance Auto after 40 years. He was an avid sports fan and bowled in several bowling leagues. He adored his children, and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mr. Flick attended several churches locally.
He is survived by his children, Cindy Flick Moyers and husband Danny of Bridgewater, Jimmy Flick and wife Diana of Linville, Lisa Flick Smith and husband Sam of Harrisonburg; two sisters, Betty Secrist and husband Phil, Hazel Burner, both of Shenandoah; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Flick was preceded in death by two brothers, Calvin Flick and Joseph Flick; and two sisters, Evelyn Dearing and Janet Bennington.
A funeral service will be held on Monday June 25, 2018 at 2 pm at the Chapel of McMullen Funeral Home with Rev. David Burch officiating. Burial will follow at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 until 2 pm prior to the service.
