James V. Flener, 76 died at 3:08 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 1998 in the VA Hospital in Marion. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville, with the Rev. Jim Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Marion, with graveside military services by the Heyde-Pillow Post 1301 of Marion. Jim worked as a truck driver for Teamster Local 347 in West Frankfort, where he worked on construction sites and coal mines. During World War II, he served his country in the Pacific in the Marine Corps. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
He was born on March 6, 1922 in Energy to Shafter and Gertrude (Phelps) Flener. Survivors include one daughter, one son and daughter-in-law, James Lynn and Barbara Flener of West Frankfort; one sister, June Mikeworth of Chicago; and one grandson. His parents preceded him in death.
