Sonia passed away in her sleep. Her loving husband, David, passed away from a broken heart shortly after losing her. His son, Randy and daughter-in-law survive them both. She was preceded in death by her mother, Florence "Fern" Ratley in 1970, her grandfather, Emil Paul Melvin also in 1970 and her Aunt Olive, also in 1970 and her cousin, Emil Jean Royers of Beavercreek, Ohio on Sept. 2, 2014 as well as Howard Scheve, Jr. on 2/22/2002. She is survived by Emil's widow, Mary and their children Sandra Jean Royers-Scheve and Robert Royers and Sandra's children Robin, Nanette Scheve-Hall (Alton) and Todd Scheve, as well as Robert's daughter, Stephanie Royers-Burton. Nanette's children, Aaron, Skai and Marcus also survive her.
Although she made her wishes well known that she did not want to be cremated, her step daughter would not yield to my pleas, and had her cremated anyway. Sonia had worked at a funeral home and saw the brutality, cheapness and lack of respect of the body at the cremation process and wanted a traditional burial with her casket to be placed over her husband's at the National Veteran's Cemetery in Riverside California. It was all about money.
