Jesse was the son of Abram and Sarah Colaw. He enlisted as a private during the Civil War and was assigned to the 16th Indiana Infantry Co. F. While in Indianapolis he died. His family moved to Kansas in the late 1860's.
While reading the stones at the North Grove cemetery, I found Jesse's stone in a pile face down. I had to wipe the dirt from it to see what it said. I was so touched by the stone I had to research the family and see what happened to them. It's so sad they had to leave their child behind when they moved on.
I have been informed he will have a new headstone , like the ones issued for the Civil War soldiers from 1860,s thru the 1890's. When the stone arrives I will post a picture.
His original stone which was broken in half, will be restored and set behind the new one.
