Mercedes, as the family preferred to call her, was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico to Ignacio Matos Serrano and Amelia Reyes Perea de Matos. She was admitted to the Arecibo Municipal Hospital on August 31, 1940 and died of Acute Appendicitis on September 2nd. She was married to Ramon Betancourt. Her brother Luis Amado Matos was my father.
