The following is an excerpt from a letter received from his wife. It was sent to his PHS Classmates who had sent a sympathy card from Petoskey High Class of 1959. Mrs. Achenbach's response was received within weeks of Bill's death: She wrote:
Bill worked at General Motors first Oldsmobile plant for 33 years. After retirement we enjoyed traveling the United States. We enjoyed estate sales and antiquing. Bill was looking forward to his 2019 PHS Class Reunion and planned to attend. Previously, we had enjoyed being part of his 50th PHS Class Reunion in 2009. He passed away peacefully on the 27th of March in his home with me besides him. He had been fighting an illness and his body just gave out. it was unexpected. His passing came one week after his 77 birthday. Bill was survived by me, his devoted wife, and our two children. He will be missed by his family and friends and his Petoskey High School Classmates.
