Irene L. Sprainis (nee Bercellie) passed away at the Hospice of Calumet Area Riley Residence on Thursday, June 16, 2016 with her loving family by her side. She was born on July 23, 1922 to John and Julia (Priam) Bercellie in Toms Creek, Virginia. Irene is survived by her children: George (Marla) Sprainis and Ronald (Diana) Sprainis; grandchildren: Michelle (Scott) Anderson, Susan (Ossi) Saarela, Jill (Charlie) Miller and John Sprainis; great grandchildren: Lainey Anderson, Haley Anderson, Kyra Miller, Parker Miller, Alison Saarela and Aiden Saarela; sister, Lola Ring; and many other family members and dear friends. Irene is preceded in death by her husband, John E. Sprainis; her parents, John and Julia Bercellie; siblings: Helen Orban, Ann Hofferth, Mary Johnson, John Bercellie, Katie Gadus, and Andrew Bercellie. Irene was a teller at the First National Bank in East Chicago for many years; until her retirement. She was also a member at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Highland, IN for over 50 years. Visitation will be on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. with Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Edward J. Moszur officiating in the Main Chapel at the Ridgelawn Funeral Home, 4201 West Ridge Road, Gary, IN 46408 (219) 980- 5555. Burial will be at the Ridgelawn Cemetery in Gary, IN. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer's Association would be appreciated. Irene will be deeply missed by her loving, devoted family and precious friends. God Grant Her Eternal Rest.
