Roy was born May 14, 1937 in Madison County to the late Lige and Robbie Davis Fortner. He retired from Southern Railroad and was a veteran of the US Air Force. Roy loved farming, his family and making others happy. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann Tweed Fortner who died in 2013 and son, Stevie Fortner and daughter, Sarah Fortner.
Surviving are his son, Bobby Fortner and wife Cathy; brother, Loy Fortner; granddaughter, Jessica Ford and husband Landon; great grandchildren, Willa and Jase.
His funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2017 in the Chapel of West Funeral Home, 17 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville. Rev. Jeff Massey will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Marshall with Masonic graveside rights conducted by Blackmer Masonic Lodge #170 AF and AM.
