William was born in Hancock Co. Buck Creek Indiana to J.W. and Caroline (Peters) Hofferberth. When William was a small child the family moved to Wapecong Indiana where JW was a dry goods merchant and operated a hotel. After JW passed on, Caroline moved the family to Peru Indiana. William grew up in Peru and in 1901 he married Catherine Guthrie. When their only child, Lucile , married, they all moved to a house on Blair Pike. William lived there until his death in 1940. William was a house painter and interior decorator by trade.
