Harland James "Brook" Brookshire, 97, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at The Homestead.

A native of Buncombe County, but having resided in Haywood County for the majority of his life, he was a son of the late Elmer and Maude Whitted Brookshire.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Garland, Vincent, and Marvin Brookshire; and three sisters, Hattie Mae Talley, Rose Gibson, and Evalee Sanford.

Brook was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels. He retired in 1985 from Champion International with 44 years of service.

Brook was a United States Army veteran having served in the Pacific during World War II.

He loved golfing, square dancing with the Southern Appalachian Cloggers and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves Baseball Team

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with the Reverend Perry Brindley and Reverend Jack Holland officiating.

Burial will follow at New Cruso Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
