Mr. Burnett was born in Union, Nov. 23, 1933, a son of the late Wade Burnett and Beatrice White Burnett. He was a retired fuel distributor with Dearybury Oil Co. Mr. Burnett was a retired veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps after 20 years service having served during the Vietnam War and Korean Conflict. He was a drill instructor with the 3rd Marine Division from 1951-1971. Mr. Burnett received two Purple Hearts and was inducted into the Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Winsor, N.Y., on Nov.11, 2006. He was a member of the VFW. Mr. Burnett was first married to the late Geraldine Stepp Burnett.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Janet Elaine Crisp of Georgia and Susan Burnett Jones of North Carolina; a son, Charles Neil Burnett of Virginia; a stepson, Jeffery Wright of Florida; a sister, Brenda Reitter of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Burnett was predeceased by a sister, Martha Pennypacker.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 18, 2007, at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Tommy McManus with military honors.
Active pallbearers will be Sam Cothran, Charles Hardin, Larry Jarzomkowski, Vernon Stepp, Dick Wilson and Bryan Grant.
The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight, Saturday, March 17, 2007, at the S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home.
