Rev. Arthur "Art"Leslie Allen, 91, of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living after a period of declining health. A native of Belchertown, MA., Art was a son of the late Lester and Olive Isaac Allen. He grew up in Massachusetts, and pastored churches in Vermont, Maine, New York, Connecticut, Florida, and North Carolina. He studied Theology at Eastern Nazarene College in Massachusetts and Burton College and Seminary in Colorado. Art moved to Hendersonville in 2004, where he spent his later years enjoying the natural beauty and wonderful people in western North Carolina.
Art was an Army veteran of WWII and was employed by the Church of the Nazarene International with over seventy years of service. He retired after serving many years as a pastor, Evangelist, and interim pastor. He was a member of Hendersonville First Church of the Nazarene.
Art dedicated his life to the preaching of the Gospel and ministering with God’s love to his congregations.
Survivors include Art's loving wife of sixty-eight years, Doris M. Allen; his son, Wayne L. Allen of Woodstown, NJ; his daughter, Sharon Allen Lloyd of Hendersonville; grandsons, Shawn Allen and his wife Tracy, Michael Allen and his wife Kim of CT; granddaughters, Angela Greer and her husband Richard of FL, Amy Pakidis and her husband Brian of VA, Nancy Lloyd of MS; great-grandchildren, Lilly, Olivia, Evelyn, and Alyshia Allen, Mike Allen, Jr., Jasmine Alvord, Christopher and Logan Pakidis, and Landon Greer; a brother, James Allen and his wife Madelyn; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, February 25, 2018 in the Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Sherman Waters and Rev. Harry Widener will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 pm prior to the service in the chapel. Burial with military honors will follow the service in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hendersonville First Church of the Nazarene, 111 North Washington Street, Hendersonville, NC 28739.
