Anthony Patrick Abate, 88, of N. Fort Myers passed away Monday March 26, 2007 at his home. He was born March 17, 1919 on Staten Is., NY to his parents Gaetano and Grace Abate. On March 6, 1943 Anthony married his loving wife Helen Marie Igenthron of Topeka, KS who preceded him in death in 1991. He graduated from Port Richmond High School in 1937 and went to work for the U.S. Government, GSA in Washington DC, where he was a loyal employee from 1941 until his retirement in 1974. Anthony was a St. John the Evangelist Catholic Youth Organization football coach in Silver Springs, MD from 1954 to 1957, He was also on St. Johns Bowling league for nearly two decades. He moved to Lee County in 1977 from Topeka, KS. Anthony was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church and he was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus St. Andrew Council # 7131. Survivors include his son Jim(Cheryl)Abate and daughter Cindy(Jim)Clapsaddle; five grandchildren; Tim(Kim)Blackburn, Grace(Erich)Blackburn, Gary(Rose)Blackburn, Andy Blackburn and Steven Clapsaddle; seven great-grandchildren; Ashlee, Tim Jr., Katelyn, Gary Jr., Tiarose, Austin and Alexandra. Also surviving is Anthony's sister Angela DiGennaro of Staten Is. And many nieces and nephews.
