Mary was born April 15, 1850 at West Plains, Missouri 75 miles north of Mountain View, Arkansas. She married William Jasper Lancaster February 14, 1867 at Mountain View, Stone County, Arkansas. Together they were the parents of fourteen children. Mrs. Lancaster was converted at the age of sixteen and became a member of the Church of Christ.

Described by her family Mary was Native American and said to be the brother of Robert Armstrong although her relationship to Robert has not been proven.

Mary had suffered the hardships of American prejudices and the greed of mankind very early in their youth in the mid 1800's. Having lost her parents at a very early age she was left orphaned and later taken in by a Preacher. Physically abused by this man of the cloth Mary bore the scars of inflicted torture for life on her back having been beaten and chained. Mary's living quarters while in custodianship/slave of the Preacher were made outdoors in a chicken pen. In this decribed residence is where her cries were miraculously heard by a Physician who then recued her from bondage circa 1870 while on his way making a home call.

Mary along with four of her daughters Eliza, Queen, Ethel and Maud moved from Stone County, Arkansas to Bell, County, Texas in 1880 after William Jasper Lancaster was released from his second term in prison and had victoriously returned home to Arkansas by train.

Mary's daughter Elizabeth "Eliza" G. Lancaster born 1873 Stone County, Arkansas was enumerated on the 1800 census at Precinct 2, Bell County, Texas. Her death and place of death is currently unknown.

After Mary was ran over by a buggy breaking her hip wooden crutches sustained her until her death.

Mary's last residence was at the Eula Pence Cafe & Boarding House in Allen, Oklahoma living with her daughter Eula Jane Pence nee Lancaster. Eula was also the informant who signed her death certificate upon Mary's death.

Mary's place of birth is recorded to be at West Plains. Missouri by her son Elza Lee Lancaster's death certificate and Kentucky by Mary's civil war pension.

After the death of her husband Mary filed an application for a Civil War widow's pension to which Mary was granted.

Mary's granddaughter Alwilda (Lancaster) Anderson who had lived with Mary and William Jasper Lancaster as a young girl gave witness describing her grandmother to be Cherokee who spoke very broken English to which she could hardly understand.

Mary's grandson Alvin Leroy Furgerson shared with his family photos of his grandmother both before and after her hip was broken. In 1934 he traveled from Arizona to Calvin, Oklahoma to do repairs on his mother's home taking with him his daughter Eupha Nell (Furgerson) Thurman and niece Edna Jenell (Furgerson) Gaddy. These three family members share coinciding testimony that Mary was Cherokee, orphaned, and had been physically abused by a Preacher.

Celesta Wandalene (Blaylock) Furgerson author and historian for Calvin, Hughes County, OK and wife of living great grandson of Mary concluded coinsiding historical evidence conclusive with above mentioned.
