CHARLES HORNER SR.
(1935-1997)
Charles H. Horner Sr., 62, of Wheelersburg, died Wednesday, March 19, 1997, at Southern Ohio Medical Center.
Born March 16, 1935, in Wilkinson, W.Va., a son of the late Shelmer Horner and Ollie Gollihue Horner, he was a retired mail carrier from the U.S. Postal Service of Portsmouth and an Army veteran with 23 years of service having served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Kegley Horner, whome he married June 12, 1955, in New Boston; a son, Charles Horner Jr. of Portsmouth; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Arminta Gail) Scaff of Wheelersburg; two brothers, Dwayne Horner of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Shelmer Horner of Columbus; three sisters, Charlene Lamey and Bonnie Vansciot, both of St. Petersburg, and Virginia Ruth Lacaf of St. Simons Island, Ga.; and four grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine Meeker and Shela Gale Horner.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Don Wolfe Funeral Home in Sciotoville, with the Rev. Ella Williams officiating, and interment in Memorial Burial Park, with military graveside rites by James Dickey Post American Legion.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday.
