ASHER, JIM C., 64, joined our heavenly father on Tuesday, March 27, 2007. Jim was born July 15, 1942 to Dorothy Dimple Revlett Asher and George Matt Asher. Jim fought a battle with stage IV Prostate Cancer for five years beating the odds for four of those years. Jim became a Christian and was baptized on January 14, 2007 and became a member of Hikes Point Christian Church. Jim was an amazing man with a unbelievable attitude and faith during a time when many would have turned away from God. Instead of rejecting God, he opened his heart to him. Jim lived most of his life in Kentucky and he was a multi-sport athlete for both Baylor Military Academy and University of Kentucky where he was affiliated with the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He graduated from Western Kentucky University in 1966 where he founded a local fraternity. After a brief teaching career he became a safety engineer for Kingsford Charcoal before founding Places Travel Agency and then published a book on boating and fishing in Kentucky. His most enjoyable career was that of a legal investigator for a local law firm. Jim was a bachelor most of his life enjoying the activities of the Louisville Ski Club and the Friday night Butchertown, TN group. He and his boat, the Rebel Yell were well known on the Ohio River where Jim made many life-long friends due to his warm outgoing personality, honesty, and loyalty. In 1946 Jim began his love of UK football and only missed two home games over a 47 year period. He is survived by his wife and love of his life, Vicki Hull Asher; his mother, Dottie Asher; a step-daughter, Jessica O'Daniel; and two step-grandchildren. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 31st at Pearson - Ratterman Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Rd. in Middletown with entombment in the Louisville Memorial Gardens-East. The family will receive visitors from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, March 30th. Memorial contributions may be made to Hikes Point Christian Church or to Hospice of Louisville.
