Esther S. Andrews (February 25, 1925-December 17, 2017), age 92, entered into eternal rest on December 17, 2017.

She was born on February 25, 1925 in Fountain, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Dennis and Ollie Pitt.

She attended school in North Carolina and furthered her education in Norfolk, VA.

In the late 1950s she moved to New London, CT, where she met and married the late Ernest R. Andrews, Jr.

She was a member of the former Montauk Avenue Baptist Church.

She retired from Vancom Bus Company as a very well-known and well-liked school bus driver in New London.

She is survived by her daughters, Margie Henderson of Riverside, CA; Saundra Christopher (Robert), of Cary, North Carolina; Sylvia Nelson (Leonard), of Groton, CT; Dawn Artis (Michael), of Waterford, CT; and ReGina Hill of New London, CT. She had 10 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and many who claimed her as “Mama A.” She is survived by her sister, Naomi Locus (Curtis), of Rocky Mount, NC. She was preceded in death by two sons, infant, David Earl, and Ernest “Ernie” R. Andrews III.

Services were conducted at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at 11:00 am. Viewing was held from 10:00 until 11:00 am preceding the service.

Interment was rendered at Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington, VA, where she will rest beside her late husband.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The New London Youth Talent Show, c/o The Garde Arts Center, 325 State Street, New London, CT 06320 or to Newington Children’s Hospital at 181 Patricia M. Genova Dr., Newington CT 06111.
