Minnie Dee Stallard

Asheville, NC - Minnie Dee Stallard, 96, of Asheville, NC, formerly of Black Mountain passed away Saturday, August 6, 2011.

Mrs. Stallard was born at home September 28, 1914 in Sparta, TN and had been a resident of the Black Mountain area for over 30 years. Minnie received her undergraduate degree in Education from Middle Tennessee State University and her Masters in Art from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She taught elementary school in Brazil, Puerto Rico and St. Louis, Missouri. Minnie was an Aeronautics Instructor at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS during World War II. She was a member of First Christian Church of Black Mountain and also a member of the Swannanoa Valley Arts League, winning numerous awards for her creativity and art work.

Minnie was a loving wife, mother and aunt. She was filled with love, life and humor-bringing a smile to all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Van and Enzena Hurd Dodson; granddaughter, Brooke Schneitman; brothers and sister-in-laws, Leon and Sally Dodson, Carroll Dodson, Casto and Flossie Dodson and Lloyd and Willie Dodson; sisters and brother-in-laws, Mattye and Dave Officer, Thelma and Carl Knowles, Velma Dodson, and Barbara Addine and Donald Cerow.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Glenn Stallard; daughter, Mary Jane Williams and husband, Don Williams of Madison, MS; sister-in-law, Helloinise Dodson of Sparta, TN and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, August 8, 2011 at 2:00 pm in First Christian Church of Black Mountain with the Rev. Joe Friddle officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
